Constructivism Playing Cards

CONCEPT

Goal of the project was to design a full standard 52 (54 with Jokers) card deck of playing cards using a specific art style. Originally intending to use Art Nouveau, time constrains caused a shift in the direction and Russian Constructivism was chosen as the style.

SOLUTION

Already using red, white, and black, Constructivism was a perfect fit for a short time line. Photo montage was used to represent the face cards and each suit was stylized to fit the theme. Famous works of the era and works influenced by the style such as Kandinsky’s “Beat the Whites with the Red Wedge” and the Supreme Brand were incorporated in the ace cards.
